What to Move to the Cloud First

Introduction: A cloud move fails when the first project is the live system that takes orders. A safer first move is something the business can lose for an hour: a backup, a staging copy, or an internal report.

1. Pick a system with a small blast radius

Nightly backups and file storage are a common start. If the copy is wrong, the office still runs. The team also learns the account, the bill, and the access rules before a customer-facing move.

2. Write down what “done” means

  • Who can log in, and who cannot.
  • Where the data lives, and how a restore is tested.
  • What the monthly bill should look like before the second system is added.

3. Leave the live product until the first move is dull

When restore drills and access reviews are routine, the customer system is a better candidate. Until then, a rushed cutover creates a weekend outage.

The first cloud system should be one you can turn off without stopping the business.

4. Conclusion

EliteSigma starts with the copy, the access, and the bill, then moves the system customers depend on.
